Before the Exam
- Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep the night before the exam.
- Have a balanced meal to keep your energy levels stable throughout the exam.
- Plan your route and aim to arrive at the test centre at least 30 minutes before your scheduled exam time.
- Makesure you have your identification and any other required documents ready.
- Drink enough water before the exam, but not so much that you need frequent bathroom breaks during the test.
- Before clicking “Start” on the exam, take a deep breath to calm your nerves.

During the Exam
- Take a moment to read the instructions at the beginning of each section to avoid any misunderstandings.
- Be aware of the time limit for each section. If you find yourself stuck on a question, it’s often better to move on and come back to it if you have time.
- The UCAT includes an on-screen calculator. Get comfortable with its functions while preparing. Use it for more complex calculations to save time. This was covered in the Quantitative Reasoning section article.
- Practise mental math to improve speed and accuracy, particularly for the Quantitative Reasoning section. This can save valuable time during the exam.
- Use the flagging option to mark questions you’re unsure about so you can easily return to them later.
- Use the number pad on the computer keyboard to enter numbers quickly during the Quantitative Reasoning section.
- If you start feeling overwhelmed, take a few deep breaths to calm down. Remember, it’s just a test!

After the Exam
- Treat yourself to something enjoyable after the exam to relax and de-stress.
- Depending on your performance, plan your next steps. The next article will focus on tips for what to do after receiving your results.
